TripRank

GPS Speedometer App

Real-time GPS speed with sensor fusion, recorded into a full trip history you can read back.

A GPS speedometer is only as good as its sampling and its honesty. TripRank reads position at a high rate, fuses it with your phone’s motion sensors to ride through tunnels and urban canyons, and records the whole trace — so a drive becomes data you can read back, not just a number that vanished off the screen.

  • Live speed readout

Real-time GPS speed, tuned against drift, on your phone and on CarPlay.

  • Full trip trace

Every drive stored as a speed-over-route record with distance, duration, and altitude.

  • Sprint timers built in

0–100, 0–200, and 400m times calculated automatically from the same trace.

Why GPS speed differs from your dash

Car speedometers legally over-read; GPS measures actual ground speed derived from position. TripRank shows the measured value and keeps the whole history, which is what makes the number useful — you can compare drives, not just glance at them. For how the measurement actually works, the journal has a full explainer.

Built for daily use, not just tests

A speedometer you only open for special occasions is a gadget. TripRank is built to run on every drive: start a trip before you pull away and it records in the background — through phone locks, through app switches — with the live readout on your phone or on CarPlay the whole way. Grant Always location permission and recording survives the lock screen, which is the difference between a complete trace and a trip that mysteriously ends after thirty seconds.

What you should know before your first trip

  • No account needed to start. Your first recorded trip works without signing up for anything.
  • Always location matters. “While Using” permission stops recording when the phone locks; set TripRank to Always in iOS Settings for uninterrupted traces.
  • The free tier is the real product. Live speed, trip history, and sprint timers are free. Pro adds deeper analysis on top.
  • GPS accuracy is honest, not perfect. Expect the cleanest numbers under open sky; cities and tunnels are where sensor fusion earns its keep.
